I went shopping in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood looking for a designer handbag. Since these are the rage in fashion today, I needed to get a new bag to replace my 4-month old Benegzzi deerskin. I wanted a great purse for spring. Light, bright, and really cool looking.
I found a great selection of handbags and purses in the many fashion boutiques and gift shops that literally line the New York City sidewalks.

I’m curious to know what the markup on these handbags are. Wholesale prices for handbags are usually 40-60% of retail price, which gives these boutiques quite some markup to cover their overhead.
